Victoria Juniors work in partnership with the Barnardo’s Mental Health Support Team (MHST). This is a service designed to help meet the mental health needs of children and young people in education settings.

The service has three core functions:

  • To deliver brief evidence-based interventions to support children and young people with mild-moderate mental health problems.
  • To support schools in developing their whole school approach to mental health.
  • To provide timely advice to school staff and liaise with external services, to help children and young people to get the right help.

In our school this means that the MHST may be involved in :

  • Offering school assemblies
  • Groups to support children’s wellbeing
  • Workshops to whole classes
  • Staff training
  • Workshops for parents
  • Individual support for children experiencing feelings of anxiety. This involves working with parents and carers completing a Parent-Led Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) intervention. This intervention follows the ‘Helping your Child with Fears and Worries 2nd edition: A Self-Help Guide for Parents’.

If you are concerned about your child’s mental health and wellbeing, please contact your schools Senior Mental Health Lead for a consultation with a member of the MHST to explore support.
