Phonics and Spelling

Our Oracy curriculum follows the guidelines and aims of Development Matters, birth to five and the communication and language toolkit for EYFS and the National Curriculum in England for Key Stages 1 and 2.

Phonics through spelling: Children learn to segment words into phonemes and to make words by writing letters for phonemes. Children are taught letter-sound relationships during the reading of connected text. Spelling and reading are mirror sides of each other. Spelling is the encoding of words, putting letters together to make words. Whereas reading is the decoding of words, interpreting words. These sides work hand in hand
